The author of the article presents a new interpretation of the Trakai Jews – a Jew and a Karaite - as proposed by Gilbert de Lanois. This interpretation can help us avoid any misunderstandings in the analysis of the Lithuanian Metrics and take an in-depth analysis of the problems of the history of ethnic minorities in Lithuania, which so far have received little attention and which are still topical. The article enlightens us on the aspects of the Trakai history and the possibilities of investigating them, highlighting the significance of Trakai as the first town of ethnic Lithuania, which provided shelter to the communities of the Karaites and the Jews.
